Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigning in Assam

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra campaigned for her party in poll-bound eastern Assam and said that prime minister Narendra Modi lacks empathy as he has shown no concern for flood-ravaged Assam and the people affected by violence in the anti-CAA protests in the state.

The Congress star campaigner who was on a two-day visit in poll-bound Assam, alleged that prime minister is sad about a tweet by a 22-year-old woman but not for the flood-ravaged people of Assam.

“I was listening to the prime minister’s speech yesterday. I thought he would speak about Assam’s development or how BJP worked in Assam. But I was shocked to hear that the PM was talking about a tweet by a 22-year-old woman (Disha Ravi). He said Congress conspired to finish the tea industry of Assam. He was also sad about Congress mistakenly putting two wrong pictures on social media,” she said.

The Congress leader was addressing a rally in Khumtai in Assam ahead of the assembly elections.

Priyanka promised 200 units of free electricity, Rs 365 per day for tea plantation workers and a direct transfer of Rs 2,000 for the women home-makers in the state.

During her address, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said that Assam was being run not by the state government, but by the Centre from Delhi.

“The PM said you have a double-engine government but Assam has two CMs. I don’t know which fuel runs which engine. The Assam government is not run in Assam… God save you,” she added.

“How can you trust the BJP? You have seen what you have got in five years. Tarun Gogoi might have committed some mistakes, but he never cheated you. He did not bring the CAA and attacked your culture and identity,” she added.
