Pranab Kumar Gogoi (left) and Ram Kumar

Media reports claim that ULFA (Independent) has released the two officials of oil drilling company Quippo more than three months after they were abducted from Diyun circle in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Pranab Kumar Gogoi and Ram Kumar were released in the morning hours on April 3 along the Indo Myanmar border.

Gogoi, a drilling superintendent and Ram Kumar, a radio operator with the company were abducted on December 21 from the company’s Kumchaikha hydrocarbon drilling site in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.

Gogoi is a native of Sivasagar while Ram Kumar is a resident of Bihar.

ULFA(I) was initially reported to have demanded a ransom of Rs 20 crore from Quippo which does contractual work for Oil India Limited (OIL) in extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas.

Following this, there was outcry on social media against the banned outfit which led to their supreme leader Paresh Baruah to tell media that the two employees were safe.

Edit: An earlier version of this report mentioned Quippo being a subsidiary of an financial institution. The error is regretted.
