With 75 seats, NDA regains power in Assam

Putting down all the speculations, the ruling NDA has emerged victorious in Assam for the second consecutive time. The BJP and its allies have won in 75 seats out of 126 assembly constituencies.

The Congress-led grand alliance could manage just 50. While an independent candidate has won one seat.

After the victory chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his gratitude to all sections of the people of the state belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains for having reposed their faith in the BJP led government.

BJP has won 60 seats while its allies — Asom Gana Parishad has won nine and United People’s Party, Liberal has won six. Congress has 29 seats, All Indian United Democratic Front has won in 16 seats, Bodoland People’s Front has won in four seats and CPIM has registered victory in one seat.

In a statement on May 2, Sonowal attributed the party’s victory to the victory of the people of Assam. Terming good actions always augur good results, Sonowal said that in the coming times, the BJP led government will work more enthusiastically and more vigorously carrying the trust of all sections of the people belonging to all caste, creed, community and religion to expedite the overall development of the state.

These election results are the testimony of the people’s endorsement to the policies and performances of the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Bikash and Sabka Viswas. The result also proved the party’s popularity among the people.

The CM also expressed his gratitude to PM Modi for his dynamic leadership and unconditional help that he has been rendering to the state since 2014. He said that because of his love and affection, Assam has been able to register unprecedented growth and development in all sectors in the last seven years. Sonowal at the same time thanked union home minister Amit Shah, the party president JP Nadda and all other central ministers and leaders for their unconditional help to Assam.
