‘Black fungus’ cases detected in Manipur

Manipur on June 1 reported two ‘black fungus’ or mucormycosis infection cases in two separate hospitals in the state.

A 45-year-old male patient admitted at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal and a 46-year-old male patient undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital in Imphal were found with ‘black fungus’ infection after COVID-19 illness.

The state government has notified all hospitals, health centres and clinics to report such cases, failing which may attract actions under the Epidemic Act.

In the past 24 hours, Manipur detected 797 cases of COVID-19. The state reported 18 deaths during the period. With this, the total number of deaths in the state due to COVID-19 climbed up to 825.
