The Assam Congress on October 21 staged a state-wide protest over high prices of fuels and other essential commodities.

Protests were organised across the state by all district Congress units.

“BJP came to power in the Centre and in the state promising ‘acchhe din’. Escalating prices of essential commodities like petrol, diesel, cooking gas and vegetables continue to hit people of all sections hard,” the Congress said in a statement.

It added that gas cylinder price has touched Rs 1000 during NDA rule from Rs 400. Petrol price has touched a record high of Rs 106.

“Unscrupulous traders, middlemen, and syndicates running with government blessings are the main reasons for the price rise,” state party chief Bhupen Bora said.

The party members denounced the BJP for allegedly failing to keep its poll promise of checking the rise of prices of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and other essential commodities.
