Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam raised the issue of safe drinking water in the state, especially in Guwahati city.
During zero hour on March 1, Bhuyan said that there was a chronic lack of safe drinking water in Guwahati.
People were suffering despite the fact that the river Brahmaputra flows through the state, he said.

The MP informed that only 30 percent of the drinking water supply in cities is done by pipelines, and the majority of it is in government complexes.
He added that government water supply touches only a negligible portion of the city.
Bhuyan strongly urged the Centre to create a white paper about this issue and take further measures.
