An alleged drug peddler was arrested in Imphal with 5 kg crystal methamphetamines, also known as “ice drugs” worth Rs 5 crore in the international market, police said on August 29.

The arrested drug peddler was identified as Bishnu Banik (32) of Moreh town, the police further said.

Acting on reliable information, a team of 2nd Battalion Manipur Rifles confiscated the huge quantity of contraband drugs during an operation at Yaishkul Janmasthan under Imphal police station on August 29 morning.

The security team was assisted by volunteers of Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA), an organisation assisting the security forces in the state in the drive against illegal drugs in the state.

The team rushed to a place at Yaishkul Janmasthan and Bishnu Banik who was found in the place was questioned.

Upon questioning him and thorough checking of the place, the team seized two packets of crystal methamphetamines (also known as ‘ice drug’).

Further search led to the recovery of three more packets of crystal methamphetamines.

The operation started around 2.30 am and lasted till 4.30 am, the police added.

The seized five packets of contraband drugs weigh about five kg, the police further added.

During spot interrogation, the team revealed that the ice drugs consignment was delivered to him by his partner Karim from Imphal East to be delivered to one Lala outside the state.

The arrested alleged drug peddler along with the seized drugs was handed over to Imphal police station after lodging a case, the police further said.
