Assam Rifles personnel on September 22 seized 1.82 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 3.64 crore at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district of Manipur.

An Assam Rifles official said that during routine checking of vehicles, the troopers intercepted a car at Khudengthabi and drugs was found packed in 44 soap cases. The drugs were concealed inside the door panels of the vehicle.

Assam Rifles official said the driver managed to run away. The high security border check post on the national highway where vehicles are parked for hours waiting for their turn to be checked by Assam Rifles personnel.

Meanwhile Imphal East Commando and Assam Rifles personnel nabbed an alleged arms smuggler from Yairipok Singa in Thoubal district on September 21. One .32 inch pistol and seven live rounds were also recovered.
