Earlier there were reports of the NEEPCO office being shifted from Shillong to Guwahati

Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on September 12 said the head office of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in Shillong will not be shifted to Guwahati.

He was replying to a query raised by an opposition AITC legislator from Mawsynram, Himalaya Shangpliang, during the assembly’s autumn session.

Shangpliang alleged that as per the order issued on June 25, this year three big offices which include that of the executive director of operation and maintenance, director of contract and procurement and director of the corporate project monitoring along with a section of the information and technology and the finance wing, have been shifted from Shillong to Guwahati.

DyCM Prestone Tynsong said that he had personally taken up the matter with the “highest authority” following a news report.

“And it is in black and white that nothing of that sort be it from the highest authority or be it from the NEEPCO management, the intention of shifting the office of NEEPCO from Shillong to Guwahati does not at all arise,” he said.

When Shangpliang pointed out that the managing director of NEEPCO does not sit in Shillong and whether this does not imply that the head office has been shifted to Guwahati, Tynsong however said that the NEEPCO does have their temporary office which is fully functioning from Guwahati to facilitate the ongoing projects that they have in Arunachal Pradesh and other Northeast states.

Meanwhile, the Mawsynram legislator has sought assurance from the state government to protect the interest of the local employees working in NEEPCO.

He said there is a fear among the people working in the NEEPCO as many may lose their jobs if the head office is shifted to Guwahati in the future.
