Assam bagged the second position among top-performing states in the country in the tourism sector, as per a survey recently conducted by the India Today group.

Assam tourism minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, expressing his satisfaction at the result of the survey, tweeted: “I am proud to share that Assam has been awarded the 2nd best-performing state in the tourism sector in a survey conducted by the India Today group,” adding, “its indeed a matter of joy to achieve this feat, despite the sector behind hard-hit during the COVID peak time.”

“I hope with the new policies and initiatives of the government aimed at uplift of the tourism sector, we shall be able to attain greater successes in days to come,” he further added. “I thank everyone associated with the tourism industry, ranging from our guests, tour operators and government officials, among others, for being a part of this wonderful journey.”

The tourism minister further remarked that after the COVID-19 effect subsided, the government of Assam got into a mission mode to transform Assam into a top tourist destination in the country and abroad. With this in mind, initiatives have been taken to provide a world-class visitor experience through the development of tourist circuits, and modernization of infrastructure, while at the same time being mindful of ecological and cultural sensitivities.

This apart, the government has been providing special incentives to stakeholders in the tourism business who were affected by COVID restrictions so as to provide them with the necessary strength to stand on their feet once again, Jayanta Mallabaruah said.
