Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on December 26 said that the police have to provide security and work for the welfare of people. Both police and the public should support and respect each other, he added.

Speaking at the inauguration of Sangaithel police outpost in Imphal West district, Biren Singh said that interaction between the public and police will help in maintaining a healthy relationship among them.

Regular open sessions are now organized at different districts under deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) so that grievances of the public could be raised through them.

The chief minister stated that the law and order of the state have considerably improved and different communities inhabiting across the state are living together, giving respect to one another.

He gave the recently-held Sangai Festival, being held across different places of the state with participation of various communities, as the proof of peaceful co-existence among different communities.

He added that the government has been putting in every effort to realize the objective of “One Nation, One Manipur”.

Biren Singh spoke on the effect of climate change and its adverse effect on water bodies and appealed to the locals of Sangaithel not to cut down trees extensively.

The chief minister informed that the government will develop Sangaithel football ground. He also asked the locals to identify a suitable place for the construction of a market shed and informed him, so that it could be constructed.

Regarding the setting up of a primary health centre at Sangaithel, he assured that the government would take up necessary steps, by including it in preparation for the budget.

The chief minister also inaugurated Mayang Langjing Kuthabi Bridge constructed at the cost of Rs 3 crore.

Biren Singh assured to consider setting up a police outpost at Mayang Langjing. He informed that the government would develop infrastructures of the primary health sub-centre at Mayang Langjing to fulfil the criteria of upgrading it to a primary health centre.

Expansion of the road from Lamsang to Khurkhul would also be considered, he stated.

He further informed that the government would include the construction of a market shed at Mayang Langjing in the work programme, considering the contribution of women vendors to the state’s economy and asked to identify a suitable site for it.
