Pabitra Margherita

Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, Pabitra Margherita, won accolades for his “excellent speech” in English and Hindi while speaking in support of the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill 2022 in the Rajya Sabha.

This was his maiden speech at the Upper house. The MP who had been a cultural activist before formally joining BJP also thanked the party and prime minister Narendra Modi for having a “non-dynastic” environment in the party.

“This is possible only in BJP. I’m thankful to prime minister Narendra Modi ji, our (BJP) president JP Nadda ji, home minister Amit Shah ji, Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and team Assam for sending me to this august house,” said Pabitra Margherita.

“When we talk about dynastic politics. It is possible only in the BJP that a son of a fourth-grade employee of the state electricity board is sent to this house,” he said.

Pabitra Margherita continued to speak in support of the bill with a special reference to the 16th-century saint Srimanta Sankardev from Assam.

“I do support this bill… the proposal to amend this will cover a variety of topics starting from the preamble to establishing a mechanism for regulating the export and import of endangered species in India. I honestly believe that this bill will ensure the protection of not only the endangered flora and fauna but also the tribal communities that live around our forests…,” he said.

“Our approach also reflects the ideals of Assam’s Vaisanavite Srimanta Sankardev who had stated five centuries ago that ‘ek briksha das putra sama’ which means one tree is equivalent to 10 sons.”

The speech was appreciated by the netizens across the country not just by the people from Assam.

“Speaking in an attractive way at the house is an art and I’m impressed by the maiden speech of Pabitra Margherita. We are fed up with the noise at the house. This type of informative speech will be helpful in nation-building,” said Animesh Deka, a college student of Guwahati.
