Special DGP GP Singh will be the next DGP of Assam. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced it on January 28.
The incumbent DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta is to retire on January 31.
“I’m grateful to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for giving me the opportunity and having faith in me. I can give you all the assurance that I will do my best for Assam,” GP Singh told reporters in Guwahati after the announcement came.
“As per the direction of the chief minister, we have proceeded at a pace for the last one and half years. Also, we will continue to work towards the goal of our chief minister to make Assam one of the top five states in the country.”
Singh, an IPS officer of the 1991 Assam-Meghalaya cadre also served in some top positions with the SPG and NIA for a long time.
