A woman was arrested by Manipur police on the charge of investing money with poppy cultivators, police said on February 13.

The arrested woman has been identified as Lamkhovah (45) of Imphal East district.

The police accused her of investing Rs 30,000 for poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi district.

Meanwhile, poppy plants in around 10 acres of fields were destroyed by spraying herbicides using drones as the drive against illicit poppy cultivation continued further in hill districts.

Police said that as many as five acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed at the hill range within the jurisdiction of T Jordanphai village and 4.9 acres at Khopibung village, Kangpokpi district on February 13 using drones.

The drive was carried out by a combined team of NAB, drone team, Imphal East district police and 4 Assam Rifles, the police added.
