In a critical surgery, doctors in Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) removed a tumor weighing 11 kg from the stomach of a 45-year-old woman.

The surgery was conducted last week and after successful recovery, the patient was discharged from the hospital on March 14.

The hospital authority said that the woman from Dhuraicherra locality of Dhalai district was admitted to the hospital with pain in the lower abdomen. The doctors attending her suggested an operation. However, due to extremely poor financial condition, the local administration had to step in to enroll her in the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance scheme on an urgent basis.

Ranjit Debbarma, a family member of the patient, said that the patient was then admitted to the hospital a week ago.

A team led by JL Baidya performed the surgery and removed a huge tumor.

Hospital authorities in Agartala on March 14 said that the woman has successfully recovered and has thus been discharged.
