Sikkim governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on May 12 inaugurated organic food summit & buyers-sellers meet at Gangtok organised by department of commerce and industries.
The summit under Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme had participation of 35 self-help groups.
The SHGs exhibited and sold pickles, millet laddus, buckwheat and gram sattu, fruit and flower wines, biscuits, cakes and candies. They also exhibited stinging nettle clothing material and decorative candles.
“Sikkim is an organic state. We promote organic, that is why the organic buyers and sellers meet has been organized,” said director, micro, small and medium industries M Ravi Kumar.

Central government has enlisted prospective buyers for organic products, he added.
Prominent among those present included MLA YT Lepcha, advisor food processing Government of India, Surendra Kumar, secretary commerce & industries Karma R Bonpo, secretary cooperation Jabi Thapa and others.
