Assam’s Mehdi Hasan wins medal in Asian U20 meet

Mehdi Hasan, a talented young athlete from Assam, won a bronze medal in the men’s 1500m race at the Asian U-20 Athletics Championship held in Yecheon, South Korea on June 7.

Mehdi Hasan showcased his exceptional skills and stamina by clocking an impressive time of 3.56.01s. The Assam Athletics Association expressed immense joy and congratulated him on his remarkable achievement, acknowledging his dedication and hard work.

During his early training days, Mehdi Hasan honed his skills at the Sarusojai Sports Complex under the guidance of coaches Nipon Das and Nabajit Malakar. Their expertise and mentorship played a crucial role in shaping his athletic abilities and preparing him for the international stage.

Mehdi Hasan extended heartfelt thanks to one of his current coaches, Anupama Srivastava (Bhupal-based), for her unwavering support and guidance throughout his training, expressing deep gratitude for the assistance he received from the Athletic Federation of India.

He also expressed his gratitude to Hima Das, a celebrated athlete from Assam, for continuously motivating and inspiring him.

Mehdi Hasan hails from the village of Gandhari Para near Barpeta Road and is the son of Abul Kalam Azad, who has been a pillar of support in his athletic endeavours.
