Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel rescued a stranded vehicle and its passengers from the Singtam-Dikchu road, a portion of which had been washed away following heavy rainfall on June 12 in Sikkim’s East district.

Due to the deluge, the cascade developed into a mighty waterfall that washed away a section of the road.

The vehicle carrying four passengers and a driver got stuck in between boulders after slipping down a gorge.

Acting fast on receiving a message, the BRO personnel risked their lives and rescued all five persons by 9:30 am on June 12, according to lieutenant colonel Mahendra Rawat.

The officer arranged for JCB, a dozer, an excavator and paver to pull up the vehicle safely. Subsequently, the slush was removed and the road cleared as also traffic jam, according to authorized defence sources.
