The flood situation in Assam marginally worsened, affecting over 34,000 people across the state.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on June 21 reported that the first wave of floods has hit nine districts in the state.
These districts include Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri.
Among these districts, Lakhimpur is the worst affected, with over 22,000 people impacted.
Dibrugarh follows with 3,900 affected individuals, and Kokrajhar with more than 2,700.
The ASDMA has advised residents living in the riverine areas of Assam to be prepared with emergency kits and to avoid venturing into rising waters during this period. Furthermore, people are urged to refrain from fishing, collecting firewood, swimming, or crossing rivers unnecessarily during these days.
Currently, 523 villages in nine districts of Assam are submerged in floodwaters, and approximately 5,842.78 hectares of crop area have been damaged, as reported by the ASDMA.
Massive erosion has also been witnessed in several districts, including Barpeta, Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, and Udalguri.
