A day after the all-political party meeting which discussed the turmoil in Manipur, Union home minister Amit Shah held a crucial round of meeting with chief minister N Biren Singh in New Delhi on June 25.

The chief minister left Imphal for the national capital at around 11.55 am by a charter flight. He dashed to the national capital after the Union home minister summoned him, a source close to the chief minister said.

Soon after he reached Delhi, Biren Singh accompanied by BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, MP (Rajya Sabha) Leisemba Sanajaoba and speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata Singh met with the Union home minister.

The meeting reportedly focused on discussing the latest development in the violent-hit state. The chief minister also reportedly apprised the ground situations to the home minister, and the way forward towards restoring normalcy in the state.

After the meeting, chief minister Biren Singh, on his Facebook, wrote that during the meeting he briefed the Union home minister about the evolving situation on the ground in Manipur.

“….. Under Amit Shah Ji’s close supervision, the state and central government have been able to control the violence to a great extent in the past week,” he wrote, and added that there has been no report of casualties due to the violence since June 13.

The chief minister further wrote that the Union home minister had assured that the central government will take all possible steps to bring normalcy in Manipur.

“Further, Amit Shah Ji advised us to strengthen our work towards achieving everlasting peace and also sought the cooperation of every stakeholder in Manipur to ensure that peace prevails in the state,” he added.

The meeting between the Union home minister and the Manipur chief minister came after the Centre convened an all-party meeting held in Delhi on June 24 under the chair of Amit Shah.

The chief minister was scheduled to return to Imphal late night on June 25.
