Meghalaya's Reliance Pyrngap conferred National Florence Nightingale award

Reliance Pyrngap, a nurse working at the Sutnga Community Health Centre in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, was awarded the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Award for Nurses on June 22.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Award for the year 2022 to Pyrngap at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi for her dedicated service.

Pyrngap has more than 35 years of service both as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and Lady Health Assistant (LHV). She has served the communities of Saipung Primary Health Centre and currently is posted at Sutnga Community Health Centre, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat, Meghalaya.

“She is efficient in her job and goes beyond her call of duty to serve her community. Her leadership, hard work, initiative and empathy are commendable. She has saved many lives of women during complicated childbirth,” an official said.

She has updated herself by attending various continuing nursing education programmes at national, state and district levels.

Pyrngap’s service to community is highly appreciated by the public and district authorities.

The National Florence Nightingale Award was instituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the year 1973 as a mark of recognition for the meritorious services rendered by the nurses and nursing professionals to the society.
