A fellowship lecture on “Effectiveness & Leadership” was delivered by Ashim Kumar Banerjee, ex-CHRO, Patanjali Foods at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in Shillong on June 19.

The event was jointly organized by Shillong Chapter, Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata; Shillong Chapter, Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), New Delhi; North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong and Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong (RCOCS).

The session started with the welcome address by Devesh Walia,  president, RCOCS; vice-chairman, ISTD. He welcomed the gathering and highlighted that effectiveness and leadership are two interconnected concepts that play a crucial role in achieving success and driving positive outcomes in various domains, including business, politics, and personal development. He also emphasized the key factors that contribute to effectiveness include clarity of purpose, planning and organization, time management, problem-solving and decision-making.

Chief guest of the event, Ashim Kumar Banerjee, ex-CHRO, Patanjali Foods, in his fellowship lecture mentioned that a clear understanding of goals and objectives helps individuals or organizations prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively.

He highlighted that effectiveness can be evaluated and measured differently. In the business world, effectiveness can be assessed in terms of achieving organizational objectives, increasing profitability, improving productivity, and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Personal effectiveness relates to an individual’s ability to achieve their goals and perform tasks efficiently. Effectiveness in social programs is measured by the extent to which they achieve their intended social or community goals. This includes assessing the impact of programs aimed at poverty alleviation, education, healthcare access, environmental conservation, and other social issues.

He also emphasized that effective leadership inspires individuals or teams to work together, motivates them to perform at their best, and fosters an environment of collaboration and growth.

The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by D Paul, department of environmental studies. He highlighted that communication is a vital aspect of effective leadership. Effectiveness in leadership involves a combination of strategic thinking, effective communication, emotional intelligence, inspiration, adaptability, and the ability to build and develop high-performing teams. It requires continuous learning, self-reflection, and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
