Sikkim CM lays foundation stone of cultural centre

Sikkim chief minister PS Tamang on June 23 laid the foundation of Naumati Sanskritik Dhrohar Kendra in West Sikkim district.

The Naumati Baja implies nine traditional musical instruments played on auspicious and social occasions in the society. It is a cultural heritage of Nepali community.

The Sikkim government, striving to preserve the cultural heritage, will be getting the cultural heritage centre of nine musical instruments established for public.

The chief minister said that the cultural heritage centre to be built at Bermoik is a gift to the entire Nepali community.

“The Naumati Baja holds great significance in our culture, with 36 melodies played during auspicious occasions. It will serve as the centre for training, research and cultural enclosure, youth hostel, VIP accommodation,” said Tamang.

He was addressing the guests from Nepal, neighbouring areas and from the state itself.
