Meghalaya’s opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on June 21 declared Ricky Syngkon, the general secretary of the party, as its candidate for the Lok Sabha polls 2024 from Shillong parliamentary constituency.

VPP president, Cara Chen said that Syngkon is the most deserving to contest from the party in the Lok Sabha elections.

The nascent VPP, which won four seats in the Meghalaya assembly elections held this year, is unlikely to field any candidate from Tura parliamentary seat.

Meghalaya has two Lok Sabha members one represented by senior Congress leader Vincent Pala from Shillong seat and the Tura parliamentary seat is represented by Agatha Sangma, the youngest sister of chief minister and National People’s Party leader, Conrad Sangma.
