Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla praised the newly inaugurated building of the Assam State Legislative Assembly, stating that it beautifully combines Assamese modernity with the state’s heritage and culture. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Guwahati, Om Birla expressed his admiration for the new building, emphasizing that it showcases the rich culture, arts, and crafts of Assam.

He called it a historic day for all the states in the Northeast and remarked that the new building would serve as a powerhouse for collective efforts in the development of Assam. Birla expressed confidence that Assam would witness significant progress and development in the coming times.

The Lok Sabha Speaker also acknowledged the significant contributions of former CM Gopinath Bordoloi and other Chief Ministers of the state in the development of Assam. He described the State Legislative Assembly building as a temple of democracy, from where the government exclusively works for the welfare of the public and takes the nation forward through socio-economic development.

The inauguration of the new building took place in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Chief Minister Sarma expressed his excitement about the historic occasion on Twitter.

Pijush Hazarika, a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly, also shared his anticipation for the event and visited the newly constructed Assembly Hall to assess the preparations.

Deputy Speaker Numal Momin mentioned that the new building has new features and plans for implementing e-Vidhan in the near future. The next assembly session will be held in the new building, making it the first modern assembly in Assam. The construction of the building began during the Congress regime but was intensified under the current government, leading to its inauguration on July 30.

Overall, the new Assam State Legislative Assembly building is seen as a symbol of progress, combining tradition and modernity in a way that reflects the cultural identity of the state.
