Two women from Manipur were arrested after heroin worth Rs 1.6 crore was seized from their possession in Meghalaya on July 16, an official said.

Acting on a specific input, sleuths of the anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) and Khliehriat police carried out a joint operation at Nongsning area in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya and arrested two alleged inter-state drug traffickers.

On personal search, a woman police officer found that the two women had strapped drugs to their bodies, police said.

Police said they are investigating the matter and trying to trace people who were going to receive the consignment.

Meanwhile, police booked the two arrested women under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
