Over 500 Imphal-bound loaded trucks remained stranded at various places on the Jiribam side of Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-37 in Manipur as the highway remained cut-off due to landslides at multiple locations.
The NH-37, considered the second lifeline of Manipur, was cut off owing to landslides at six different locations between Awangkhul and Khongsang in Noney district, reports said.
One of the landslides near Wakhul village is stated to be a serious one as it affected around a 100 meter stretch of the highway heavy sliding of mud, rocks and trees, the reports also said.
Heavy rains lashed in the district on August 15 triggered the landslides, official sources said.
Authorities of the NHIDCL pressed into service to clear the debris using heavy machinery. The restoration works are in progress, the reports added.
In the meantime, officials of the Noney district administration and district police today took stock of the situation. They also took up relief measures for the stranded people nearby the landslide areas.
Many vehicles, mostly Imphal-bound loaded trucks, were stranded on the Jiribam side of the landslide areas. Besides, over 500 Imphal-bound loaded trucks were also stranded at various places in Jiribam town and other parts on the stretch of the highway, the reports said.
As per an official report, sliding of mud and rocks at as many as 12 locations along the stretch of the highway in Noney district of Manipur.
