Caravan tourism awareness event in Shillong

The tourism department of Meghalaya organized a “Caravan Tourism Awareness Workshop” in Shillong on August 10. The workshop focused on the burgeoning field of “Caravan Tourism” and equip potential stakeholders with essential knowledge and tools to thrive in this evolving landscape.

Besides providing a broad idea about “Caravan Tourism”, the workshop also discussed about necessary certifications, manufacturing and government support.

It helped gain insights into the required certifications and regulatory frameworks for establishing and operating caravan tourism businesses. It also facilitated interactions with prominent caravan manufacturers, understanding the technical aspects and innovative features of modern caravans.

Besides these, the workshop also discussed the opportunities in opening caravan tourism business in Meghalaya with the support of the government. It explained about how to leverage the support and initiatives provided by the government of Meghalaya to enhance and expand caravan tourism ventures.

The workshop was open to a diverse range of participants, including individual entrepreneurs, tour operators, travel agents, tourism transport operators, tourism cooperative societies, tourism societies, hotels, and homestays. By bringing together stakeholders from various sectors of the tourism industry, the event aimed to foster collaboration and drive the growth of caravan tourism in the region.

Meghalaya, a state blessed with the awe-inspiring beauty of nature, mesmerizing landscapes, enchanting waterfalls, lush greenery, and pristine water bodies. With its immense potential, Meghalaya stands poised to become a preferred destination for both domestic and international travelers. The state’s shift towards adventure, wildlife, pilgrimage, and eco-tourism has prompted a change in accommodation preferences, leading to an increasing demand for alternative lodging options like caravan tourism.
