ANI Photo | “Opposition did not let Parliament function under pretext of Manipur”: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that the opposition parties did not let the Parliament function in the Monsoon session under the pretext of the situation in Manipur.
While speaking to reporters, Kiren Rijiju said, “Opposition parties didn’t let the Parliament function, under the pretext of Manipur over the past few days. Yesterday, when the PM spoke on Manipur and the entire northeast, the entire Opposition had walked out.”
He further stated that all the NDA MPs from the Northeastern region have condemned the walkout staged by the opposition in the House.
“All the NDA MPs from the Northeast have condemned this and we are also going to write a letter to the PM,” he said.
Speaking on PM Modi’s speech in Lok Sabha, RJD MP Manoj Jha said, “After about 1.45 hours, the words on Manipur came for 2 to 3 minutes. He spoke for 30 seconds outside the Parliament. He used the speech to mock, crack jokes, to make taunts, but yesterday was not a day for that. A tragedy has occurred. A crime against humanity has taken place.”

Earlier asserting that state and central government are working to restore the peace in Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday ‘assured’ the strictest punishment for the accused who indulged in crimes against women.
“There are serious crimes against women and they are unforgivable,” he said.
“Both the state and central governments are doing everything possible to ensure that the accused get the strictest punishment. I want to assure the people that peace will be restored in Manipur in the coming time,” PM Modi said while replying to the no-confidence motion against his government.
He further said the country is with the people of Manipur.
The no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was defeated in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The NDA defeated the no-confidence motion comfortably with a voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
The three days of the debate on the motion in the Lok Sabha witnessed a fierce battle between the ruling and the Opposition coalitions over  Manipur violence and other issues.
