Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 7 said that “very soon” there will be a 32 km elevated road corridor in Kaziranga National Park and the state government will also construct a tunnel worth Rs 4000 crore under the Brahmaputra river.

On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the chief minister said: “You all know and heard that we are planning to construct a 32 km elevated corridor and we believe that very soon we can implement this project in a real sense.”

“Along with that, we have undertaken another big project to construct a tunnel of Rs 4000 crore under the Brahmaputra river connecting Kamargaon in Golaghat district to Gohpur where you will pass through the tunnel underwater, which you might have witnessed in cinema,” stated Sarma.

“In the meantime, the government of India has invited tenders for this project. DPR is about to complete and we do hope that the project will start very soon,” added CM.

At present the 4-lane highway from Guwahati to Dibrugarh bifurcates towards Tezpur from Kaliabor. Further, the four-lane work is going on from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh.
