A moment from championship in Guwahati

The 39th National Senior Kyorugi and the 12th National Senior Poomsae Taekwondo Championships concluded at the Karambir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on September 11.

All Assam Taekwondo Association (AATA) under the aegis of Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI), organized the championship from September 9.

More than 1300 players and officials from TFI-affiliated states and units including the Services, ITBP, CISF, CRPF and SSB among others participated in this tournament.

Players from Haryana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Services performed brilliantly and continued their dominance on the mat throughout the tournament.

On the last day of the event, Assam’s Rodali Baruah who represented Goa team this time won gold in the women’s Kyorugi event in over 73kg category. Apart from her, Assam’s Akangsha P Gogoi, Maheswata Kasyap and Shweta Sharma won a bronze medal in the women’s Poomsae team event.

Abhijit Kalita of Assam won silver in the Poomsae pair event in the Under 40 kg category representing SSB.

Earlier on September 10, Assam players won four medals including one gold, two silver and one bronze.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the closing ceremony of the event on September 12. Sarma mentioned that Indian players have been able to excel in different disciplines on the global platform. The chief minister also assured that if such kinds of sports events are conducted the State government would extend all possible help.

He also released the souvenir of the event on the occasion.

AATA general secretary Hiranya Saikia thanked all the players, officials and others for making the event a grand success. This can be mentioned that the last time Assam hosted a senior national taekwondo championship was in 2005.
