Four of a family killed in Meghalaya landslide

Four persons died in a landslide on October 8 at Pynthor Langtein village under Thadalskein block in West Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

A statement issued by the government on October 8 said that the four people who lost their lives in the incident include the father, the mother and their two children.

The landslide, which was triggered by incessant rain, had partially buried the victims’ house by mud.

Their bodies have been retrieved and necessary legal formalities will be observed.

The government has also announced ex-gratia of Rs 16 lakh to the next of kins of the victims.

“Deputy commissioner, West Jaintia Hills district has been instructed to release ex gratia funds @ Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kins immediately,” the statement said while adding that the Block Development Officer, Thadlaskein C&RD Block has been directed to render any other immediate assistance.
