Guwahati City FC and 91 Yards Club emerged as the champions of the Guwahati Sports Association’s (GSA) B and C Division Football League 2023-24, respectively, following thrilling finals held at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on October 19.

In the B Division final, Guwahati City FC secured a victory in a penalty shootout, defeating Young Amateur Club 4-3 after the regular time ended with a 1-1 scoreline. GCFC’s defender Rahul Kalita opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a powerful header, capitalizing on a superb cross from midfielder Manjit Taro. However, Young Amateur managed to equalize in the 16th minute when striker Biplab Rabha capitalized on a corner kick.

The penalty shootout saw GCFC’s goalkeeper, Fransish Boro, make two crucial saves, sealing their victory. Rahul Kalita of GCFC was honoured with the Player of the Final award, presented by former international footballer Swan Thapa.

In the C Division, 91 Yards Club secured a resounding victory, defeating Narengi Royal FC 3-0 to claim the championship title. Scoring for 91 Yards were Dilangki Dkhar (25′), Sekhar Marapasae (45′, & 57′). The Player of the Final award was presented to Sekhar Marapasae by former footballer Khagen Saikia.

During the closing and prize distribution ceremony, the B Division champions, Guwahati City FC, were awarded the championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh by GSA general secretary Devajit Saikia. The runners-up, Young Amateur, received the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Similarly, the C Division champions, 91 Yards, were presented with the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 by Devajit Saikia, while the runners-up, Narengi Royal FC, were given the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

The event was graced by the presence of GSA president Paresh Ch Das and Vice presidents Badal Dey and Bhola Boro.
