Smuggled goods worth Rs 6.25 crore seized near Manipur-Myanmar border

Security forces in Manipur intercepted and seized smuggled areca nuts worth around Rs 6.25 crore near the India-Myanmar international border, reports said on October 28.

Assam Rifles foiled a major cross border smuggling attempt on October 28 and seized 52.1 tonnes of areca nuts at Phaioh in Kamjong district of Manipur.

Assam Rifles official said the smuggled goods were loaded in 12 trucks and 24 individuals were apprehended.

The apprehended individuals along with the seized items and vehicles were handed over to the forest department, Kamjong for further legal proceedings.
