Meghalaya DyCM Prestone Tynsong

Meghalaya deputy chief minister in-charge home, Prestone Tynsong, on November 22 said the state government had already written a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation into the November 22, 2022 Mukroh firing incident.

“We have already written a letter. Even from the Assam government, they have done it. Now the ball is in the CBI’s court,” Tynsong told reporters.

On September 30, the chief minister-level border talks between Assam and Meghalaya had decided to hand over the investigation into the November 22, 2022 Mukroh firing incident to the CBI.

Accordingly, the two state governments have also decided to wind up the judicial commissions constituted to probe into the incident.

At least six persons, including five Khasi villagers and one Assam forest official, were killed in an alleged firing by the Assam police and forest guards at Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills district on November 22, 2022.
