Over the years, a lot of cricketers have become legends while some went into oblivion and completely out of cricket news. While there could be a lot of reasons for it, there is another category of players who are underrated.

While these players have had an illustrious career, they are somehow underrated and remain unsung. In this listicle, we will discuss three underrated cricketers over the years.

Three unsung heroes of cricket

  1. Shikhar Dhawan

The former India opening batter made his debut in 2010 when the senior players were rested for the home series against Australia. After bagging a first-ball duck, he had to wait until June 2011 to play his next five ODI games. In these games, he managed only 69 runs including a half-century.

After this, with the senior players returning to the team, Dhawan didn’t play for the team for the next two years. After the team management and selectors decided to let go of some senior players, the left-hander was one of those who got the opportunity. After being the highest run-getter in the Champions Trophy 2013, he had an illustrious career with 6793 runs in 167 ODIs. Earlier this year, the 2013 CT winner was dropped from the team and it looks like it is the end of his career keeping aside IPL.

  1. Fakhar Zaman

While the likes of Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi get a lot of attention, Fakhar Zaman goes under the radar. However, the left-hander has been one of the most dangerous players in world cricket. Not to forget, he played a key role in the team winning the Champions Trophy in 2017.

Notably, the Lahore Qalandars player made his debut in the same tournament. Since then, he has played key roles in the team chasing a 300-plus target in the last few years. He is the only Pakistani to score an ODI double hundred.

  1. Tom Latham

The New Zealand stand-in skipper has been prolific even though his ODI numbers don’t tell the whole story. Starting as an opening batter across formats, the left-hander started to bat in the middle-order in a series against India in 2017. Since then, he goes about his business without getting much of a recognition although he is reliable player and leader for the New Zealand team.
