Two persons were arrested in Shillong after heroin weighing 370 grams worth Rs 2.59 crore was seized from a vehicle, a customs official said on November 25.

Acting on specific information that a consignment of drugs was being carried in a car coming from Assam’s Silchar, sleuths of Customs (Preventive), Shillong intercepted the vehicle on November 22 at Nongmynsong area.

“Initially the occupants of the vehicle denied that any such contraband was being carried by them. However, on thorough search of the vehicle, 30 soap cases containing the contraband were recovered from the interior part of the vehicle dashboard,” the Customs (Preventive) said in a statement.

The officials have booked the two individuals under NDPS Act.
