Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 19 claimed that the registered cases of teenage pregnancies in the state had witnessed a remarkable decline due to efforts against child marriage in last one year.

Sarma mentioned that registered teenage pregnancies in the state have dropped significantly by 60% in the last one year.

“Our relentless pursuit against child marriage and teenage pregnancy is yielding positive results,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Assam chief minister further tweeted: “Registered teenage pregnancies in the state has come down drastically from 1,05,942 in 2022-23 to 40,012 in 2023-24.”

“We won’t rest until we bring this figure to zero,” Sarma added.
