Inaugural issue of the Manipur News hits stands

A new daily newspaper has hit the stands in Manipur on December 13. The Manipur News, a daily newspaper was launched at a hotel in state capital Imphal.

Senior journalist T Chandragupta is the editor of the new daily newspaper.

Speaking on the occasion, president of Editor’s Guild Manipur, Khogendra Khomdram said that the profession of media is a challenging one. “One needs to go a long journey to achieve a feat in the line of professional journalism. One should not forget their mentors and past experiences,” he added.

Also speaking on the occasion, president of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, AMWJU, Bijoy Kakchingtabam expressed that there seems to have a perception of threat to the freedom of press and media these days. He then stressed the need for the journalists not to compromise the ethics of the profession.

Launching the newspaper, Manipur health and IPR minister, Sapam Ranjan Singh said that strengthening media is necessary to enlighten the public. The minister was speaking as chief guest on the occasion.

Ranjan Singh then maintained that, proper verification of news reports and other incidents occurred are required before inclusion as news items. “Media plays a crucial role to enlighten the public in many spheres. It also plays communicative role among communities. Information and opinion about any happening in the state is also narrated though media,” he added.
