Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati airport) marked a significant milestone by inaugurating direct flights to Bangkok, operated by Thai Air Asia, starting from December 2.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of Ankur Jain, director Assam Skill Development Mission; chief airport officer Utpal Baruah; chief executive officer of Thai Air Asia, Bangkok, Wuitchuni Kuntapeng; and Shyam Malani, director of Indo Thai, Guwahati.
The maiden flight touched down at Guwahati airport at 11.10 pm with 56 passengers on board and departed for Bangkok at 11.40 pm, carrying 97 passengers on its inaugural day.
The flight schedule includes operations on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a departure time of 11.40 pm from Guwahati, reaching Bangkok at approximately 2.15 pm Indian time, in the early morning in Thailand.
Looking ahead, the airline aims to establish onward connectivity to destinations such as Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Speaking on the occasion, Utpal Baruah, chief airport officer, Guwahati airport, expressed optimism. “Our airport has taken a significant stride with this new connection, positioning itself as a hub for South East Asian countries. This development is poised to boost the tourism industry in the region, and it necessitates collaborative efforts from the airport, airline, government, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of this route,” he said.
