In a significant boost to the ongoing growth in Karbi Anglong, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated multiple projects totalling Rs 168 crore on January 8. Addressing a public meeting organized in Diphu, chief minister Sarma emphasized the rich socio-cultural tradition of the Karbi society and the importance of preserving their ancient system of faith.

Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the historical significance of the Rongkhang area, stating that the rich cultures of the Karbis originated there. He noted that the Karbis established twelve capitals in this area, where they practiced Karbi rules, rituals, traditions, and culture. Sarma traced the history of the Karbi community back to 3000 BC, emphasizing the community’s forward movement through the practice of the Honghari faith—a traditional belief system based on clan and ancestors.

Asserting the significance of staying connected to one’s roots, Himanta Biswa Sarma stressed that a society cannot progress by severing ties with its ancestral forms of belief and practices. He urged Karbi youths to ensure that the ancestral beliefs of their community remain relevant in contemporary society.

The projects inaugurated include the Sertalin Auditorium at Taralangso, boasting a seating capacity of 3,000, constructed for Rs 35 crore. The Sarsing Teron Langkung Habe Multi-purpose Sports Complex at KASA Stadium in Diphu, built for Rs 75 crore, was also inaugurated. Additionally, the Rongbong Artu, Karbi Capital Complex at Taralangso, with an investment of around Rs 6.86 crores, was unveiled among others.

The inauguration of these projects reflects the commitment of the government to infrastructural development in the region, fostering both cultural preservation and modern amenities for the people of Karbi Anglong.
