The Assam legislative assembly is poised to convene its budget session from February 5, 2024, as per a notification issued by the Assam legislative assembly secretariat on the orders of the state governor Gulab Chand Kataria. The session will be held at the assembly chamber in Dispur, commencing at 9:30 am.

The cancellation of the scheduled winter session in September heightened the anticipation for this upcoming session. The last convened session was the Autumn session, which began on September 11, 2023. The finance minister of the Assam government, following tradition, will present the state budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 during this session.

This budget session holds significance as it serves as a platform to unveil the government’s financial planning and priorities for the upcoming year. The decisions made during this assembly will play a crucial role in shaping the state’s economic trajectory.

In a parallel development, union home minister Amit Shah is slated to inaugurate the Brahmaputra Riverfront beautification project at Panbazar in Guwahati on January 20. Assam’s housing minister, Ashok Singhal, recently visited the site to assess the final phase of the park’s development. The project, spearheaded by the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, is a flagship initiative to upgrade the Brahmaputra riverbank in Guwahati.
