Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the ‘Aideo’ cinema hall, a venture by the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation (ASFFDC), in a momentous ceremony in Guwahati on January 15. The event also marked the release of the national award-winning film ‘Anunad: The Resonance.’

Celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year, ASFFDC is actively contributing to the cinematic landscape. Chief minister Sarma announced the construction of five new cinema halls and the renovation of nine existing ones. Furthermore, ASFFDC has extended support to 56 regional language filmmakers and assisted 239 artists through its Artist Welfare Corpus Fund.

‘Aideo’ cinema hall, named in line with Assam’s rich cultural heritage, is a step towards promoting Assamese cinema. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his address, emphasized the crucial role of ASFFDC in fostering a vibrant film industry in Assam.

Prior to the cinema hall inauguration, CM Sarma participated in the “Youth Leadership Conclave 2024” organized by the Pragya Foundation at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra International Auditorium in Panjabari, Guwahati. The conclave coincided with the birth anniversary of the revered philosopher and monk, Swami Vivekananda.

Chief minister Sarma paid homage to Swami Vivekananda, describing him as one of the greatest thinkers and philosophers born in the Indian subcontinent. He highlighted the enduring relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in the 21st century. Sarma underlined the monk’s unwavering faith in the innate qualities of Indian civilization and culture, which continues to inspire the youth of today.

Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings serve as a guiding force for the youth, instilling a sense of pride in Indian heritage and fostering leadership qualities. The Youth Leadership Conclave aimed to empower and motivate the younger generation, aligning with Swami Vivekananda’s vision of youth-driven progress.

The day’s events underscored Assam’s commitment to promoting not only its cinematic prowess through ASFFDC but also nurturing leadership and cultural awareness among the youth, encapsulating a holistic approach towards the state’s growth and development.
