Deka Bricks Industry (DBI) and Barekuri FC emerged victorious in the semifinals of the Guwahati Premier Football League on January 5 at the Judges’ Field in Guwahati, setting the stage for an epic summit clash on January 7.
DBI prevails in penalty shootout
In the first semifinal, DBI faced off against Oil India Limited FC (OIL) in a tense battle that ended 0-0 after regulation time. The match took a dramatic turn as it headed into a penalty shootout. DBI held their nerve, securing a 4-1 victory in the shootout. Notable performances from Dibin Roy Nongspung, Urjoy Brahma, Manjit Taro and Donbok Lyngdoh ensured DBI’s triumph. DBI goalkeeper December Khongjoh’s spectacular saves earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award, presented by former Santosh Trophy player Moti Lal Das.
Barekuri FC’s comeback seals final spot
In the second semifinal, Barekuri FC showcased resilience as they overcame an early deficit against NorthEast United FC. Shajan of NorthEast United FC struck first in the 2nd minute, but Barekuri FC mounted a stunning comeback. S George Kom equalized in the 48th minute, setting the stage for a tense second half. The drama intensified as Dipen Moran received a second yellow card in the 73rd minute, reducing North East United FC to ten men. Capitalizing on the numerical advantage, Sei Joseph Haokip secured the winning goal in the 89th minute, propelling Barekuri FC to the final.
