Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the people not to eat non-veg food and to keep fast during the consecration of the Ram Temple on January 22.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept fast for the last 11 days and can’t we keep a day or even half a day fast for the auspicious occasion? I would urge the people to keep fast or at least stay away from the non-veg food,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said addressing a press conference in Guwahati on January 21.

Assam government has already issued directives imposing temporary restrictions on the sale of liquor on the day.

The chief minister stated the sale of meat and fish will be prohibited until 4 pm. He also asked the restaurants not to serve non-vegetarian food until 2 pm on the specified date.

These restrictions are a mark of respect for the highly anticipated consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
