Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road mishap in Golaghat district of Assam, and announced financial assistance for the affected families.

PM Modi declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the truck-bus collision near Dergaon on January 3 morning.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office posted: “Pained by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Golaghat, Assam. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM.”

President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her condolences, saying, “The news of the sudden death of many people in a road accident in Golaghat, Assam is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed his deep anguish over the horrific bus accident in Dergaon and extended condolences to the affected families.

The local administration is providing necessary support to the injured during this challenging time, as stated by the Assam Chief Minister’s office.

“At least 12 people were killed and 25 others injured after a bus collided with a truck near Dergaon in Assam’s Golaghat district on Wednesday morning,” police reported.

Rajen Singh, Superintendent of Police of Golaghat district, provided details, stating: “The bus carrying a picnic team was going towards Tilinga Mandir from the Kamarbandha area of Golaghat district. The bus collided with a truck in the Balijan area, near Dergaon, and the truck was coming in the opposite direction from Jorhat’s side. Ten bodies were recovered from the site, and 27 injured persons were referred to Jorhat Medical College & Hospital, where two people succumbed to their injuries.”

Locals engaged in rescue operations, and the SP of Golaghat district confirmed 12 fatalities. Investigations are ongoing, and appropriate actions will be taken as per the law.
