ANI Photo | Manipur government has declined permission for Imphal venue of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Congress

Manipur Congress Chief, Keisham Meghachandra, revealed that Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh declined permission for the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s designated venue in Imphal. The state party unit is actively seeking alternative options after the government’s refusal.

Congress leader KC Venugopal conveyed that the Manipur government rejected the party’s request to commence the yatra from Palace Ground in Imphal. Despite this setback, they are determined to initiate the Yatra in Manipur from another location. Meghachandra asserted the party’s right to use public lanes, emphasizing that these spaces do not solely belong to the Chief Minister.

Following the denial, a team of Manipur Congress members engaged with the Chief Minister, who reiterated the refusal. Despite the government’s stance, they plan to conduct the Yatra near the Khongjom War Memorial complex in Thoubal, utilizing a private lane. Discussions with the AICC team and senior party leaders are ongoing to finalize the alternative plan.

In a related development, party leaders Jairam Ramesh and KC Venugopal unveiled the road map and pamphlet of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the national capital. Venugopal expressed disappointment over the government’s denial to hold the yatra in Palace Ground, emphasizing the significance of starting the journey from Manipur. The new location for the Yatra in Manipur will be disclosed later.

Scheduled to commence on January 14, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra aims to cover 6,713 kilometres, spanning 100 Lok Sabha constituencies and 337 assembly segments, encompassing 110 districts. The march is set to culminate in Mumbai on March 20 or 21, with the slogan “Nyay ka haq milne tak.”
