The budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is set to commence on February 16, as announced by a notification issued by Governor Phagu Chauhan. The Legislative Assembly has been summoned to meet at 10 am on the specified date, exercising the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India.

The notification, released by Governor Phagu Chauhan, states, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, Phagu Chauhan, Governor of Meghalaya, hereby summon the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to meet at 10 am on Friday, the 16th February 2024.”

Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Andrew Simons, have informed that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) is scheduled to meet on February 2. The primary agenda of this meeting is to decide on the sittings and proceedings of the upcoming session. The BAC gathering will take place in the office of the Speaker, Thomas Sangma.

Notably, the decision to advance the budget session ahead of its regular schedule in March could be influenced by the impending Lok Sabha elections.

The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly anticipates addressing key legislative matters and budgetary considerations during the upcoming session, contributing to the state’s governance and development agenda.
