Lengpui airport

The Mizoram government has opted to form a working committee to conduct an in-depth examination of the prospect of transferring control of the sole Lengpui airport near Aizawl. The meeting, presided over by chief minister Lalduhoma, concluded that the committee’s objective is to assess whether handing over Lengpui Airport to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) or private entities would be in the best interest of the state.

During the meeting, reports highlighted that various airports in the country are managed either by the AAI or private companies through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The working committee is tasked with thoroughly examining the advantages and disadvantages of transferring control to either the AAI or private entities, taking into account various reports and data.

The committee is expected to diligently pursue the matter and promptly submit its reports and recommendations to the state government. Additionally, the meeting addressed airport security concerns and discussed other issues, including staff shortages at the airport. Key attendees included Adviser to chief minister (finance) TBC Lalvenchhunga MLA, vice chairman of the Resources Mobilisation Committee Haukhuma Hauzel, Chief Secretary Renu Sharma, and other high-ranking officials.
