Riyan Parag

Despite a dazzling century from Riyan Parag, Assam succumbed to a 10-wicket defeat against Chhattisgarh in their opening Ranji Trophy match of the season. Parag’s valiant effort of 155 off 87 balls, studded with 11 sixes and 12 boundaries, proved to be a lone warrior act as Assam collapsed in their second innings, setting a mere 87-run target for the hosts.

After opting to bat first, Assam stumbled to a below-par 159 in their first innings. Chhattisgarh then piled on 327, thanks to superb innings from captain Amandeep Khare (116) and Shashank Singh (82), establishing a healthy 168-run lead. Enforcing the follow-on, Chhattisgarh witnessed another dismal Assam batting performance, with only Parag offering any resistance.

Riyan Parag‘s innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, but unfortunately, it lacked support from the other end. The Assam middle order crumbled once again, and they were dismissed for 254, leaving Chhattisgarh with a straightforward chase. Openers Kd Eknath and Rishabh Tiwari comfortably saw them through to victory, completing the formality within 20 overs.

Brief score:

Assam 1st Innings: 159 all out

Chhattisgarh 1st Innings: 327 all out

Assam 2nd Innings: 254 all out in 53.2 overs (Riyan Parag 155 (87 balls), Rahul Hazarika 39; JP Butte 3/37, Vasudev Bareth 3/59)

Chhattisgarh 2nd Innings: 87/0 (Kd Eknath 31 not out, Rishabh Tiwari 48 not out).
